Preparing for Disease X and Beyond
Disease X. An enigmatic name that represents the knowledge that a serious international epidemic could be caused by a pathogen currently unknown to cause human disease. The WHO included it in its recent plan to accelerate research and development during global health crises such as the Ebola and Zika epidemics. The WHO plans for scientists to develop customizable vaccines, so that when an outbreak occurs, they can sequence the unique genetics of the virus of the disease, and plug a new sequence into the already-developed platform to create a new vaccine. The question is, would this method be viable? And if so, how will all nations get ahold of these vaccines for their people?

The Rohingya Crisis
The Rohingya have long been a part of Myanmar, yet the residents of Myanmar do not think of them in that manner. The Rohingya are viewed as illegal immigrants, and there are laws in Myanmar that discriminate against them. A large portion of Rohingya have escaped to their neighbouring nation, Bangaladesh, to seek refuge from the torture and suffering they have experienced in Myanmar, and if this crisis continues, other ASEAN nations may soon be burdened with an increase in numbers of refugees.
